Thanks. I have applied to join the WP6 VO but if you could add me
by hand for the moment that would be great. I'll send my subject in a
separate mail.

Yes I tried those. I can mount the disks fine. From
/var/log/messages on the LCFG server it does seem to be unauhorised
requesting of a mount, though I can mount fine from the same machine after
it bombs out during installation. I'll have a deeper look into the
etc/dcsrc file which LCFG installation uses.
