As a former Recruitment Consultant with the Commission who had to stand
much abuse from enquirers on this very point and who was never provided
with a satisfactory explanation by the Commission to pass on, I am
delighted that this outrageous pre-condition has at last been removed by a
number of the institutions.
However, the (fledgling) European Food Safety Authority is not the same
thing as the Commission and presumably either isn't going to make use of
the new inter-agency European Recruitment Office or hasn't signed the
non-ageist pledge!

Subject: age discrimination
I was intrigued to read in Rapid today (EO/02/12) that both the Commission
and the Parliament have agreed to end age discrimination in recruitment.
This doesn't jibe with the ad. in this week's Economist (May 11)for an
Executive Director of the European Food Safety Authority. "Candidates must
have been born after 01.06.1942." Can someone provide an explanation?
