diddo -- so easy to be critical - what are the "new" action steps?? If
anything, this thread of discussion just re-hashes old news so lets move
forward....even for folks 'new' to the scene or topic of discussion. What
kind of "exercises"..."training" ....nothing to do with "simulation" of
course.....do we need to do to make REAL changes??? ...with planners,
developers, architects, designers, social workers etc..etc....if putting an
architect or developer in a blindfold (who never thought about such issues
EVER) doesnt help them THINK ABOUT the issues at minimum when they go about
their work, what can we expect??? I never would expect anyone without a
so-called "disability" (whatever that means) to really think they know what
its like to be in someone else's shoes....(e.g., someone with a
disability).....some of the attitudes expressed in these threads are very
hypocritical.....people with disabilities "know" what people without
disabilities "think" about people with disabilities....
As Laurence says, What is the "right" way? I dont think there is one, but
its good food for thought.

Hello again
If simulation is deemed to be the "wrong way" what do people feel is the
"right way"?
Best regards

Subject: Simulation exercises-
| o.k. folks. since simulations seem to be another area of general interest
to
| folks on the list, I will definitely compile a bibliography on the topic
and
| send it to all and sundry. BUT be forwarned, I have found very little thus
| far. Thanks to those of you who have already sent me material. If anyone
| else has suggestions, perhaps pertaining to teaching *about* disability
more
| generally, that would be helpful as well.
|
| When I conducted searches using the key words "education and disability" I
| found lots of stuff about teaching kids (in particular) with dis/abilities
| in the classroom. When I conducted searches however using the key words
| "popular education and disability" I came out often with 0-yes that is
| correct ZERO results!!! There is one book in the library which I have not
| yet been able to locate entitled " Readings for Diversity and Social
| Justice; An Anthology on Racism, Sexism, Anti-Semitism, Heterosexism,
| Classism and Ableism." I was so amazed that dis/ability was included!Has
| anyone seen this book?
|
| given the paucity of material thus far, it may take me a bit to send out
the
| bibliography. Thanks again, Lilith
