May I make a request of all my colleagues and friends on this listserv?
I'm doing research on people with disabilities who hold or have held
elected office in the United States. I'm particularly interested in
identifying individuals with disabilities who have held state-level
(governor, state representative, state senator) or federal (U.S. Senate,
House of Representatives, President, Vice-President) office.
Could anyone please let me know if you're aware of someone with a
disability who has recently held, or currently holds, such an office? I
know of the more well-known people -- like FDR, James Langevin, Max
Cleland, Tony Coehlo, Senator Gore from Oklahoma -- but I'm sure there are
many, many more that I'm not aware of.
Any information you can provide in addition to the name and office held
would be most appreciated. For example, does this person identify as
having a disability? Does he/she advocate for improved public policies
for people with disabilities? Etc.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give.
