.....Under the New Transport Deal all those who have been using
their cars and not the buses for 12 months will have to use the bus
at least twice a week for the next 3 months. If at the end of 3
months they still are trying to use their car it will be taken off them
and they will be given a bus pass. These inveterate car drivers will
also have to attend 'transport-seeker' classes for 4 hours a week to
learn that they must try and use buses more. If they do not attend
they will be forbidden from driving ever again.
Lone parents will be forbidden to drive a car at all. Pensioners who
still try and drive a car will have their pension REDUCED by the
going rate of inflation till they can no longer afford a car. Motorists
will have to attend a 'transport interview' every 6 months to explain
why they are not trying to use the buses more.
Public transport fares will still rise by twice the inflation rate but
petrol prices will rise by twice as much again. Eventually we won't
be able to afford to travel anywhere by any means of transport and
all the pensioners will starve because there are no local shops left
they can walk to. This will solve the looming pensions crisis, which
is what Blair meant by 'joined-up-government'.
