Dear colleagues
The Institute of Advanced Musical Studies, King's College London, as part
of King's year-long programme of Humanities conferences on the theme 'The
Art of Dying', is pleased to announce a two-day international conference,
'Music & Death in the Eighteenth Century'. This event, to be held at the
Rolls Chapel in the newly-renovated King's library (formerly the Public
Record Office on Chancery Lane), takes place on 8-9 February 2003.
Paper proposals (talks should be 30 minutes in length) are now being
solicited. The deadline for submission -- including titles and abstracts
-- is 30 August 2002. We welcome papers on any aspect of music and death
in the eighteenth century, early or late, particularly those with an
interdisciplinary stance. It is hoped that one session will be devoted to
the Mozart Requiem. The full conference programme will be announced in
October.
In the interests of interdisciplinarity, I would be grateful if you would
mention this conference to any of your colleagues who may not be aware of
it, especially those in other departments and disciplines. All proposals
are welcome.
For more information, please contact the convenor, Cliff Eisen, King's
College London, Strand, London WC2R 2LS, UK ([log in to unmask]).
Thanks,
Cliff Eisen
