John,
Through the FAILTE project a database of records describing learning and
teaching materials has been created. The database fields are based on IMS
metadata elements, and IMS v1.1 compatible metadata records can be
generated from the database. The FAILTE database is not a repository of the
actual resources themselves, though. The records contain URL links to the
resources wherever they reside on the Web. More about FAILTE:
http://www.failte.ac.uk/index.html
Some other SIG members are also using/have used IMS metadata. Off the top
of my head, some to check out are: RESL (http://www.resl.ac.uk/), Results
(http://www.jisc.ac.uk/dner/development/projects/ltg/), CHCC
(http://www.chcc.ac.uk/) and SeSDL (http://www.sesdl.scotcit.ac.uk:8082/)
The Metadata SIG's survey should be ready to be sent out in the next couple
of weeks, and the results of this should hopefully reveal more information
about the use of IMS LRM and other related metadata schemes in the UK.
best wishes
Jenny
