Our local GPs BEGGED us a few years ago to STOP giving univalent tet tox
boosters to 15 year olds, since apparently it is the devils own job to
find univalent diphtheria vaccine (the other non-urgent booster patients
need at this age). On the other hand they give me ear-ache every time
one of our SHOs "tells" the patient to see their GP urgently for a non-
urgent and often non-indicated TTB.
I think "not my job" arguments are unhelpful, as long as no one sector
of the primary-secondary-tertiary care continuum allows itself to become
the dumping ground for all the things that other sectors are
insufficiently resourced to deliver. "Not my field of expertise" is a
subtly different, and more valid reason.
