What is the future of the university and college system?
Higher education funding chief speaks at City University, London
The head of the English universities' funding council will lecture on
a future strategy for higher education at City University, London, on
Wednesday 15 May.
Sir Howard Newby, Chief Executive of the Higher Education Funding
Council (HEFCE), will look at opportunities and challenges for the
future of higher education. These may include:
· What are the implications of nearly one third extra students
in
universities by 2010?
· Could universities be funded only to carry out teaching? ·
What relationships should exist between universities, colleges
and
schools?
· Will regional strategies for groups of universities be
essential
and will funding reflect this?
· Are universities anything more than agents of government
policy?
