Assistant Archaeology Officer (Planning and Conservation)
Salary - Scale 5, £15,741 to 17,265 pa (pay award pending)
An archaeologist is required to work as part of this busy team, providing a
county-wide archaeology service to residents and visitors, as well as a range of
client groups including local authorities and statutory undertakers. The post is
based at County Hall Durham, within the Durham Studies Section.
You will have experience of cultural resource management, sound knowledge of
archaeological excavation and survey techniques and good negotiation and
communication skills to work in the area of development control. You will be
expected to work alone and as part of a team from which support and training
will be available for the right candidate. In addition to the main focus of
development control archaeology and conservation matters, the successful
candidate will assist the County Archaeologist with the SMR and development of
planned outreach and research projects.
Candidates should have a degree in archaeology or a related subject, two years
relevant experience (one year of which must be in archaeological fieldwork) and
the ability to travel between and to various sites within the county, and
appropriate transport is therefore essential. For further details and an
