The Politics of Evaluation
Conference to be held at the University of Brighton
Westlain House, Falmer, 9 November 2002
Evaluation has assumed major importance in the current modernisation agenda
in assessing performance and supporting the development of new initiatives
in a wide range of policy areas. This conference will explore the politics
of evaluation and the practical implications of using different approaches.
Particular importance will be placed on the involvement of service users and
communities in evaluation and strategies to support this.
Papers are invited in the following areas:
Neighbourhood renewal; health and social care; youth offending and community
safety; partnership working; management of change; health promotion;
sustainable development; education.
Presentation of papers at the conference
Papers will be presented at workshops following both morning and afternoon
plenaries. There will be several workshops in each session with papers
grouped according to subject. A full conference programme will be available
shortly.
Selecting papers for presentation
The criteria for selection will include: relevance to the conference theme;
relevance to delegates from a wide variety of backgrounds; originality;
quality of presentation of abstract; contribution to a balanced programme;
potential for a stimulating discussion.
Papers are encouraged from:
Academics, service users and user-led groups, community groups, public
bodies, voluntary organisations and private agencies.
Conference fee
The conference fee will be £110 plus VAT (total £129.25) to include
conference pack, copies of papers, lunch and refreshments. All presenters
will need to register as fee-paying delegates. Concessionary rates will be
available for students and non-salaried participants.
Abstracts
Proposals for papers (500 words maximum) should be returned to HSPRC no
later than Friday 10 May 2002. The first author of each proposal will be
informed of the outcome by 28 June 2002. Those successful will be asked to
submit their completed paper by 20 September 2002.
