medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Greetings learned ones!
I am wondering whether anyone can provide
me with references (primary or secondary) which
address the question of how often a bishop was
expected to celebrate mass in his own cathedral -
and how often he actually did so? If possible I
would like examples from both ends of the spectrum -
saintly bishops who did what they were supposed to,
and more, vs. those who thought "the diocese of X
was worth a mass" and presumably celebrated as few
as possible.
Thanks,
Meg
PS for those interested in calendrical matters,
last wednesday was the official First Day of
Summer in Iceland. It is several degrees below
zero and storms are keeping people indoors in
the north and west!
