I've just read in the 15 March 2002 edition of Planning (we're a bit
behind), that the Braithwaite viaduct in London will only be listed grade II
despite the Prince of Wales and English Heritage's wish for it to be
classified as an ancient monument. The Corporation of London were apparently
pleased that it the viaduct was given only the lowest grade which implies,
in my mind, that they intend to do harm to the structure and are glad there
won't be too much red tape to stop them.
Questions: What and where is this structure? Bishopsgate goods yard is also
mentioned in the article (as having no structures worth listing). Is this
the same as Bishopsgate goods depot and if so is the Braithwaite viaduct
within the structure of depot?
Also, is anybody organising any tours of the interior of the old depot?
Thanks, Mark
