ACCESSING SCOTLAND'S PAST PROJECT
PROJECT MANAGER
Salary range UKP17,500 - UKP28,840 (E grade - band 3)
Applications are invited for the fixed term appointment of a project manager for the Accessing Scotland's Past Project within the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland. The project aims to create standardized short text descriptions for sites in the National Monuments Record of Scotland database to existing information standards in place, to be available to the non-specialist user. The project is a 'proof of concept' and is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund. It will complete two areas in Scotland, one in Aberdeenshire, the other in the Scottish Borders. The Project Manager will also supervise two staff involved in the creation of short site descriptions.
This appointment will be contracted for 12 months. Starting salary will depend on qualifications and experience. RCAHMS is an equal opportunities employer and operates a no-smoking policy within its building.
The successful candidates should have at least a first degree in Archaeology, Architectural History, History of Art, Architecture, or related disciplines, preferably with 1st or upper 2nd class honours or additional relevant experience. Communications skills are essential, both orally and in writing. Knowledge of Scottish archaeology or architectural history, keyboard skills and some familiarity with information technology are advantageous.
BRIAN HOPE-TAYLOR ARCHIVE PROJECT
CURATOR
Salary range UKP17,500 - UKP28, 840 (E grade - band 3)
Applications are invited for the casual appointment of a curator for Phase 3 of the Brian Hope-Taylor Archive Project within the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland. The project aims to create a detailed list and prioritise (in conjunction with a paper conservator) paper and photographic material in the collection, using information standards in place at RCAHMS. This work will lead to the preparation of a Heritage Lottery Fund joint bid with English Heritage and Historic Scotland for further resources to catalogue and conserve the collection.
This appointment will be contracted for 6 months. Starting salary will depend on qualifications and experience. RCAHMS is an equal opportunities employer and operates a no-smoking policy within its building.
The successful candidates should have a degree in Archaeology and should have some experience of monuments in the field, including excavation experience. The post holder is expected to have, or to develop expertise in, the work of Brian Hope-Taylor. A knowledge of Anglo Saxon and Dark Age archaeology would be advantageous. He or she must have drive and initiative, good personal management skills, coupled with attention to detail, and familiarity with computer applications. The post holder is responsible for quality control and the upkeep of standards.
