Applications are invited from subject specialists in Business
Studies, Economics, Citizenship, English, Science, Design
Technology, Physical Education, Geography, Music, Performing Arts
and Classics to join the team of subject editors for Xcalibre.
Xcalibre, funded by the DfES through the Gifted and Talented Unit of
the Excellence in Cities Initiative, and based in the University of
Cambridge Faculty of Education, is building a data-base driven
website to provide information about teaching and learning resources
for gifted and talented students of up to 18 years old.
Xcalibre is looking for subject specialists to identify and provide
details of excellent classroom and extra-curricular resources by
filling in an online meta-tagging form. The rate of pay is £200 for
meta-tagging each set of 25 resources. Additional payment is
available for Teaching Notes on the resources.

The Xcalibre Editorial Team is collecting examples of best practice
and providing details of resources for the education and training of
the gifted and talented for a wide range of extra-curricular
education as well as across all subjects taught in school. The
website will be searchable by calendar and map and approved
organisations will be able to update their own publicity. Resources
include online and offline resources for use both in and out of
school; research articles on the education of the gifted and
talented; lesson materials, books, magazines and interactive web
resources; lectures, masterclasses, and workshops; places to visit
such as museums, theatres, galleries and field study centres;
opportunities for training and participation such as competitions,
sports coaching and youth orchestras; and agencies and
organsisations providing advice, education and training for gifted
and talented young people.
The details required on each resource (examples can be seen on the
website) include: a brief descriptions (approx 50 words); relevance
to G&T education (approx 50 words); learning objectives; curriculum
links to GCSE, AS, A level or other recognised qualification;
source; publisher; organiser; location, dates and times (if event,
competition or place to visit) etc.
