I am doing a literature review as the first stage of a research project on
the mental health needs and experiences of people with physical
impairments. The project is being done in partnership with Mind and funded
by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (and the three people working on it have
physical impairments and/or experiences of mental health services. The
project was initiated because of anecdotal evidence that people with
physical impairments are badly served by mental health services and that
mental health needs are poorly recognised by disability services. Does
anyone have any information about any relevant research that is being
done/has been done?
Also, we are producing an information booklet, 'Disabled people and mental
health support services', which will be published by Mind in September. If
anyone would like a copy, please let me know. There will be a
questionnaire attached to the booklet which we hope will be filled in and
returned by people with physical impairments who also have mental health
support needs.
