Dear list-members,
as a German speaking person I know, that "handicap" is a non appropriate
term, there is something with " cap in the hand", being a beggar-
is this the reason, why English speaking people from the disability
movement reject the term?
In Austria and Germany journalists and politicians tend more and more to
use the term "handicap" as foreign word in our language and suppose this to
be very pc. I realized that there are also different versions of "handicap"
in French and Scandinavian languages.
Please give me a quotation ( I think there was one by Mike Oliver) an
explanation, why to avoid this term! Is there any interest to search for
the transnationality of such terms, to avoid them in any language. "
Invalidity" is also an example with a horrible sense!
