CASBAH list members and ICS staff/research fellows/students who attended the
CASBAH Black History Month Dissemination Event last year may remember the
excellent presentation given by Tanzanian writer and performance poet Freddy
Macha (15/10/2001). Well, Freddy is working on a new book on the African
diaspora and would like to include contributions from people who have
information to share on their experiences as Africans, the descendants of
Africans living in the UK, etc. Please see the message forwarded below -
entitled 'Africans Across the World' - and, if you would like to respond,
reply directly to Freddy via email at [log in to unmask]
Thanks,
Carol

Subject: Africans
Africans Across the World 4th April, 2002
I am in the middle of a book about Africans around the
world. One of the major issues I am tackling is HOW
DIFFICULT IT IS BEING AFRICAN. I am looking at the
subject from various angles : science, history,
economics , art , relationships , politics, etc.
The style of writing and methodology used is
FICTITIOUS REALISM.
Although 90% of the sources and writing stems from my
own 47 years experience living THIS LIFE I am going to
devote a chapter with contributions from other
sources. That s why I am writing to you.
What do I mean by Africans ?
By Africans I mean ,first, people born and bred in the
African continent and people of African descent born
outside Africa. The colour, complexion, gender,
cultural values DO NOT MATTER.
If you have time I would like you to summarise in as
many few words as possible your own experiences on the
subject. Either as an African struggling to
exist/live/survive or as a non-African relating and
dealing with BEING AFRICAN. You might be married to an
African, have an African lover/friend/child/adopted
child or deal directly with Africans in your life.
I am requesting :
1- to tell the major issue(s) that you have
experienced or seen in relationship to the world as an
African
2- Or give your own analysis/or ask questions on the
matter from any philosophical outlook : religious,
cosmic, artistic, political, economical, psychological
etc.
Up to two pages or a maximum of 300-800 words is
enough.
I need this very soon; possibly 2 weeks maximum.
Thanks.
The payment? The only payment I can /may guarantee if
I use your material is PUBLICITY of yourself / your
views. I cannot guarantee any other financial payment
at the moment.
The main aim of the writing is
1-to actually publicise Africans and their plight
ACROSS THE WORLD (& in Africa)
2-CHOICE OF MATERIAL WILL BE BASED ON THE WAY THINGS
ARE SAID AND IF THERE IS SOMETHING NEW OR A DIFFERENT
ANGLE PRESENTED.
Thanking you in advance,
Freddy Macha
