Monday 17th June 2002 - Authors advised of status of their submission
Background Information
The Organising Committee has identified the following theme:
Design for the whole person - Integrating Physical, Cognitive & Social
aspects
Tutorials provide conference participants with the opportunity to gain new
insights, knowledge, and skills in a broad range of areas in the field of
human-computer interaction. Tutorial participants may include user
interface designers and users, software developers, managers of
human-computer interface projects, human factors practitioners, interface
evaluators and testers, industrial designers, teachers of HCI, researchers
in human-computer interaction, and professionals in other areas seeking to
gain an understanding of how HCI relates to their specialties.
Workshops provide a forum for small groups (10-20 people) to exchange ideas
on a specific topic of common interest. Workshop participants are selected
on the basis of position papers submitted directly to a workshop's
organiser. A position paper is generally 2-4 pages long and outlines the
submitter's views on the workshop theme and the reasons for the submitter's
interest in the topic.
Each workshop or tutorial is designed to be a half-day or full-day in
duration. Half-day sessions are three hours long (not including breaks).
Full-day sessions are six hours long (not including breaks). Topics
related to the following will be given precedence:
* product design
* design theory and standards
* usability metrics
* computer-supported collaborative work
* web design, Internet and intranet use
* call centres
* human error and systems failure
* ethnographic studies of IT use
* research methods for HCI
* industry case-studies of HCI issues
* human/user interface design
* evaluation methods and techniques
* visualisation and novel interfaces

workshop/tutorial

include where the tutorial has been given and how it will be modified for
HF2002.
* In the case of a workshop, an indication of the proposed size of the
tutorial and any potential attendees would be helpful
Requirements List
Prepare a list of requirements for running the tutorial. Include any
supplies required for each participant, restrictions or conditions on
offering the tutorial, technology support requests and other information
that the review committee should know in considering the proposal.

permission to utilise the notes for tutorial participants.
Compensation
An honorarium of $1,200AU will be awarded for each half-day
workshop/tutorial that is taught, $2,000AU for each full-day. If a
workshop/tutorial has two or more leaders, the honorarium will be shared
amongst them. Workshop/Tutorial leaders must pay for their own travel
expenses and conference registration.
