Too Much Time On Your Hands?
The British HCI Group needs to recruit people to support its activities and
where necessary sit on its executive committee in various roles.
VACANCIES IN EXISTING ROLES
MEETINGS OFFICER
We also have an opening for meetings officer. As meetings officer you will be
responsible for developing and maintaining a reliable annual programme of
meetings at appropriate venues on a balanced range of topics.
Meetings are held to:
:- further research and good practice;
:- educate all types of members;
:- transfer knowledge to and from academia;
:- stimulate discussion on ongoing (e.g., education, training and
accreditation) and innovative topics.
Ideally you'll have experience in running seminars and workshops and the role
would involve negotiating deadlines and agreeing on support for publicity and
finance.
PRACTITIONER AND STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES
We always have a pressing need for people to represent HCI / usability
practitioners on the committee. Similarly we always need students to help
further develop our student package. Current practitioner and student executive
members are spearheading initiatives such as www.usabilitynews.com, the
accreditation of practitioners, and the development of a student community
website.
Committee members should be prepared to commit to attend up to four meetings of
the Executive Committee per year, plus other contributions in sub-committee
meetings and via electronic communication. Meetings are held all around the
country: all expenses are paid for, but all committee members' time is
contributed on a voluntary basis.
If you interested in acting as our meetings officer, or as a practitioner /
student representative please contact Peter Wild (details below).
