Dear colleague,
MONET, the European Network of Excellence on MODEL
BASED SYSTEMS,(http://monet.aber.ac.uk/ ). MONET plays a coordination role
by supporting exchanges between European research institutions and
developing contacts between research and industrial applications. It is
open to new members.
Monet created a taskgroup called " BRIDGE " on model-based diagnostic
(MBD) with focus on bridging the MBD technologies from the control and
AI fields. The aim of BRIDGE is to identify competing and complementary
methods
and solutions based on applying various techniques or combinations
thereof to problems of industrial relevance.
The European Commission has initiated a Call for Expressions of Interest
(EoI) (deadline June 7th) (http://www.cordis.lu/fp6/eoi-instruments ),
which will be evaluated to set the topics for the VI Framework. The
commission explicitly requires that networks provide inputs for defining
the relevant topics to be included in the workprogramme. It is hence
important for the BRIDGE taskgroup to provide input.
We have prepared a list of topics that we consider of highest relevancy
for research and application in the next few years and that we feel
necessitate to BRIDGE between the Control and the AI methods and tools.
We plan to submit
this list, supported by a list of the institutions and companies that
are interested in projects on these topics. This will give a stronger
impact to our submission and it can help us and you identify potential
partners to respond to later calls.
We appeal to you to take an active part in this action and help us set
up the final list of topics that will be submitted to the EoI. May we
ask you to spend a few minutes to provide your input by revising,
refining and/or extending the current list of topics given below. Please
return your answer before the 12st of May 2002 to [log in to unmask] Your
answer will be taken as a personnal view and your name or affiliation
will not be published in connection with the initiative without your
explicit agreement.
We encourage you to forward this message to any colleague you feel could
be interested and willing to provide his input. Of course, we will make
the results of this action available to you.
Thank you for dedicating your time.

Topics of interest within the general area of bridging AI and control
communities methods for
control/monitoring and diagnosis
1)Dynamic systems/Controlled systems monitoring and diagnosis; coupling
of fault detection and fault isolation; control and diagnosis
integration, temporal aspects of diagnosis.
Is this topic within your areas of interest ? Do you think it is
relevant in your field ? Comments ?

and accomodation; controllability analysis; reconfigurable control
schemes.

6)Integrated modelling environments, model management/maintenance,
interfaces between engineering and knowledge based models (e.g
Matlab/Simulink to qualitative modelling tools), self-explanatory
simulators, training systems for operators.
