Semmes-Weinstein monofilaments are well tested. You can find the articles if
you do a Medline search. I have used them extensively during my evaluation
of individuals with diabetic neuropathy. I use it for testing foot
sensitivity as part of an overall system check as related to their balance
dysfunction. I am aware of OTs using it for hand testing. I am not aware of
the validity and sensitivity of the test on the hand or other body parts.
