I can answer some of your questions

Edginfo provides information for the GRIS
So the config of edginfo determines if the Gris should
contain site information, compute element information,
storage element information. It reflects what is on
your box. This feeds into globus-mds.
globus-mds then feeds in to as many other globus-mds as you want.
At the top is an InformationIndex(II), as I understand it IIs sit
at the top of GIIS hierarchy and the only thing that ever looks
at them is a Resource Broker.
You still want to be registering your site into your II otherwise
your RB will no longer be able see your site.
So this configuration is all additional to what you have already.
So your site GIIS registers into your II but it also registers
into ral's uk GIIS and from there you are registered into
the II at CERN as well.
Having a quick look in your ldap it looks like your CEs and SEs are
registering straight into your II. You may not have a site GIIS at
the moment?
$ ldapsearch -x -H ldap://gm04.hep.ph.ic.ac.uk:2135 -b
'Mds-Vo-Name=icl,o=Grid'
did not yield anything but that is a guess.
Do you have a
/etc/edg/mds-info.conf
and a
/etc/globus.conf I could look at.

Steve,
I`ve changed /etc/globus on gm04 (the site GIIS and RB machine). Do I
have to do anything, or just wait for RAL to notice.
In the rb config file I have
MDS_contact = "gm04.hep.ph.ic.ac.uk";
MDS_port = 2170;
MDS_timeout = 60;
MDS_gris_port = 2135;
MDS_basedn = "o=Grid";
On gm04 there is the informationIndex running on port 2170. I think I
should change this to ral right? I'm suffering from information
overload, perhaps you could clarify things.
gm04 has
edginfo - globus MDS with fancy backend?
globus-mds - plain globus MDS? Same purpose as edginfo??
InformationIndex - Site GIIS?
Cheers,
Rod.
