CONFERENCE ANNOUNCEMENT and CALL FOR PAPERS:
Destinations by Design: the fifth biennial New Zealand Tourism and
Hospitality Research Conference
(incorporating the second International Tourism Students Conference)
Hosted by Waiariki Institute of Technology,
Rotorua, Aotearoa/New Zealand
December 2-5, 2002
The unifying theme of this year's NZTHRC is Destinations by Design - the
management of change in a turbulent world. As in previous events hosted by
Massey University, Otago University, Lincoln University, and the Auckland
University of Technology, the 2002 conference provides a national forum to
researchers of tourism and hospitality at all levels, and aims to
facilitate dialogue on best practices in both the academic and business
domains. It is an opportunity to present findings, to ask questions, and
to gain the information needed to succeed in today's competitive
environment.
Major topics to be addressed throughout the event, through paper
presentations and workshops include:

In addition the one day International Student Conference addresses:
· Student research contributions, both undergraduate and post-
graduate, on all the conference themes
Submission guidelines:
Abstracts are now sought for both the principal event and the student
conference, and will be available for viewing on the web. Full papers
will be included in a hardcopy volume of proceedings, which will be
available at the beginning of the sessions. We encourage private sector
sponsorships, partnerships and volunteers to co-ordinate specific sessions -
particularly interactive workshops.
Key Dates:
· Submission of abstracts (by): Monday the 29th of July
· Submission of papers: Monday, the 21st of October
· Student Conference: Monday, the 2nd of December
· NZTHRC: Tuesday, the 3rd - Thursday, the 5th of December
Registration Fees/Dates:
· $300 NZ (gst exclusive) by July 29th
· $350 by Oct 21st
· $400 afterwards
NB: 1 NZ$ Dollar is approx. 0.42 US$ as at February 2002
Full registration includes a hardcopy Proceedings volume of the NZTHRC
submissions, satchel and welcome pack, morning and afternoon refreshment
breaks, three lunches, a social event and dinner on Tuesday, a guided field
visit to Rotorua attractions on Wednesday, and a Gala Dinner on Thursday.
Delegates are also welcome to attend the Student Conference on Monday.
A range of accommodation options and post-conference activities/excursions
will be available.
· Student Conference Monday, December 2 only: $50 for Full Time
Students
ID required - includes hardcopy proceedings of the student conference
submissions, lunch and refreshment breaks. The student conference is a
great opportunity for students at all levels of tertiary study to present
research findings of individual or group projects.
· Students wishing to attend the entire event may register for $200.
Ph.D. students nearing completion are encouraged to submit their work to
the NZTHRC program.
· Individuals unable to attend the entire conference may obtain a day
rate of $200
