Description: This is the homepage of investigative journalist George Monbiot (1963-). It provides access to several hundred of his essays and newspaper articles published since 1995. They cover a wide range of political and social issues including: critiques of globalisation and the power of big business money in politics; economic justice; land rights; hunting; genetic engineering and genetically modified foods; countryside management; racism and poverty. A general theme is the opposition to the increasing power of multinationals and the way in which they undermine democracy and increase social inequalities. This site provides access to the full text of COM (2002) 62 final which was published by the European Commission as part of the Information Society eEurope Programme. It contains statistical data on the current quantity and type of use of the Internet by EU member nations. This covers: the number of households with access to the Internet, data on use of the Internet by governments, schools and business; and information on Internet connection costs.
