Emne: Re: Increaseing clinical efficiency
Hi
some of the efficiency strategies adopted by Australian public hospitals
are:
-limit appointments for chronic injuries i.e. 6, then discharge clients
into a group where education and self management are key, after which they
are discharged.
-stop treating or decrease proportion of chronic patients, and focus on
acute/sub actue for which there are quicker positive outcomes.
-stop using therapies that are not supported by the literature ie ultasound.
-focus on home exercise and management programs from day 1.
-establish treatment goals with atient at beginnig so you are not trying to
hit a moving target.
-use VAS pain scores for gauging treatment progress. A lot of patients
think they aren't making progress until you show them their charted VAS
scores.
- educate patients at the outset about a realistic outcome. Physcial
therapists don't have God status.
You might also ensure your patient and insurance company mix is comparable
with the other hospitals you are being compared with.
Cheers
