A new information paper has just been added to the NOF-digitise Technical
Advisory Service Web site.
http://www.ukoln.ac.uk/nof/support/help/papers/cldintro.htm
NOF-digitise projects will create valuable collections of resources; they
will also create descriptions of those resources in the form of metadata
records. Such metadata records may include descriptions of collections as
well as of individual items. This paper describes approaches to such
"collection-level description" and highlights the important role it will
play in enhancing access to NOF-digitise resources.
The Fund with its partners is currently revising the technical standards to
specify that the RSLP schema referred to in this information paper will
become the required standard for all projects in the programme to adopt.
This is to enable the Fund to be able to access the collection descriptions
for each project and provide a cross-searching facility through the NOF-digi
portal. The Fund will be writing to each project with further details about
this shortly. In the meantime, if any projects need advice about using the
RSLP schema or have already commenced work on collection descriptions,
please contact the technical support service at <[log in to unmask]>.
