Högskolan i Borås (the University College of Borås, UCB) is a national
university college with a strong regional base. Our 9,000 students come from
various parts of Sweden, as certain programmes are only available in Borås.
UCB consists of six departments within our target areas: Library and
Information Studies, Business Administration and Computer Science, Textile
and Design, Education, Engineering, and Health Care. UCB values the

The Department of Library and Information Studies/Swedish School of Library
and Information Science is a joint department at the Göteborg University and
the University College of Borås, based in Borås. The education comprises
graduate to postgraduate studies. The licentiate level education may also be
taken as distance education. Both education and research activities, mainly
located in Borås, are growing fast.
The number of students is for the moment about 1,100, of which 25 are
postgraduate students. The department has 65 employees including four full
professors. National and international contacts are numerous. The research
education is carried out in close collaboration with corresponding
programmes in the other Nordic countries. Research projects are supported by
a common research programme and policy for UCB. There are four main areas
for research and teaching: Libraries – their management and cultural role,
Culture and society; Knowledge organisation including information seeking
and retrieval; Interaction between the user and information services, and
Information Management and Information Resources Management.
The Department of Library and Information Studies now needs two
Assistant professors/Senior lecturers in Library and Information Studies

Assignment: Teaching at graduate level up to 80 credits and participation in
research and research education on the basis of overall research policy and
the applicant’s own qualifications. The teacher in question should
participate both in the pedagogical development of the subject and research
together with researchers, teachers and doctoral students. Teaching takes
part both in Swedish and English. We assume that applicants who are not
fluent in Swedish are willing to take courses in the language. The position
is placed in Borås and will be available from the autumn term in 2002, or
according to agreement.
Qualifications: Doctoral degree in Library and Information science or
adjacent subject. Equal importance should be attached to scientific and
pedagogical skill. Importance should also be attached to the ability to
inform development work and research. Additional qualifications are
knowledge in either information seeking, library use and human-computer
interaction or/and Knowledge Organisation, databases and digital libraries.
