Dear Colleague,
The Bodleian Library plans to mark the 400th anniversary of the
refounding in 1602 of the university library by hosting a celebratory
conference from 18-20 September 2002.
Naturally we anticipate considerable local interest in the event
and, for that reason, I am keen that our colleagues outside Oxford
should be made aware of our plans well in advance.
If you feel that you would like to join us in what should be a
stimulating three days, you may book a place via the conference website
http://www.bodley.ox.ac.uk/2002conf .
I do hope that this event will prove sufficiently attractive to
tempt you briefly from what I know are busy schedules. Our aim is to
celebrate not just the quater-centenary of the Bodleian Library but also
the fundamental importance of libraries generally. The presence of
representatives from other major institutions would be a valuable
feature of our celebrations.
Yours sincerely,
Reg Carr
