Sarah,
I've found the lack of a MDA object term to cover sherds which can not
otherwise be identified to a specific functional form (the vast majority of
pottery finds recorded in the SMR) extremely irritating. This must surely
also be a problem for museums as well. I am currently using the object term
of 'vessel' for all undiagnostic pottery finds, as this seemed the most
general term that I could get away with, but ideally I'd like to be able to
use a term such as 'sherd' or 'undiagnostic sherd'.
