Is anyone interested in contributing a paper to a panel on 'German
Ecocriticism' at the ASLE conference in September? Though most ASLE
members work in Departments of English, there were four German papers
(in effect, already a German panel) at the last ASLE conference in
September 2000, as well as papers on Spanish and other literatures. I
have found the dialogue with Eng Lit colleagues in ASLE (UK)
mind-broadening and stimulating. Please reply to me by 19 April. For

Creativity, Culture, and Environment
"Creativity, Culture, and Environment" is the theme of the third
biennial conference of the UK branch of the Association for the Study of
Literature and Environment. The conference will be held 6-8 September
2002 at the University of Leeds, Bretton Hall Campus, Wakefield,
Yorkshire. Leo Marx will giving the keynote address on "The Legacy of
Raymond Williams: An American Perspective."
Abstracts are invited to arrive by 22 April 2002 on any aspect of the
conference theme, including any forms of creativity in the arts and any
cultural representations of environment. Ecocriticism, ecofeminism and
ecopoetics will be strongly represented.
Bretton Hall Campus is an eighteenth-century country house set in a
landscaped park with a Nature Reserve and is home to the Yorkshire
Sculpture Park. Registration fee for all participants is £60.
Residential fees will be £144. Cheques should be made payable to
"University of Leeds." Send abstracts (and, later, fees) to Dr. Terry
