Celebration with Stelarc, world-renowned Performance Artist and

May 8th
ALTERNATE BODIES: ZOMBIES CYBORGS AND AVATARS, 2pm George Fox Building Room
5/6, Lancaster University. In his presentation Stelarc will explore
alternate, intimate and involuntary interfaces with the body, demonstrating
a muscle stimulation system for remote choreography of the body. Q & A will
follow the discussion. Free and open to the public. Limited seating.

HOMOPOLYBOTS: BUILDING MODULAR HUMANS, 9am-4pm, Conference Centre, Room 3,
Lancaster University. Can we create enhanced humans using modular
prosthetic devices? How does a mechanical body differ from a human body, if
at all? When does an object become _part_of_ a human body? The Homopolybots
workshop aims to bring together University Researchers and Artists to
discuss particular problems and questions associated with creating modular
humans. Attendees with particular interests in the following may wish to
attend: Computing, HCI, Robotics, Prosthetics, VR, Ethics & Technology,
Cybernetics. We also encourage the demonstration of artwork, robotics,
prosthetics and computing devices that provide solutions to human-machine
communication and motion. If you are interested in presenting your
technology, please provide a detailed description. Registration only. =A320

ART CELS PERFORMANCE ART PARTY, 8pm-1am, Town Hall, Lancaster. Organised by
Lancaster University's Cybernetics group and Folly in honour of our
distinguished guest, Stelarc.
The Computing Department, with the help of Folly, hopes that Art Cels will
bring together local artists and technologists to discuss (and display!)
the future of computing and performance art in human-machine communication.
With this in mind, Art Cels hopes to attract artists who are interested in
exploring human-machine communication using various performance techniques.
As well, we invite technophiles to display their wares during the event.
