Researcher at Enterprise IDU
----------------------------
Enterprise IDU are looking for a full-time researcher/usability specialist
who is knowledgeable about methods in social and/or behavioural sciences.
The researcher will design, carry out, and support our research into
usability, consumption behaviour and user preferences about information:
paper documents, electronic media, and environments.
At Enterprise IDU we research and produce information products for major
clients, including web sites, bills and statements, letters, signs, and
instruction manuals. We are also increasingly active in researching
perceptions of brand.
Duties
------
Probably a graduate in psychology, social science, ergonomics, or a related
discipline such as communication studies, the researcher will perform duties
including:
*Designing, conducting and analysing research using appropriate methods,
including questionnaires, controlled user testing, structured observation,
and interviews
*Compiling results and writing reports both for clients and for internal use
*Selecting, recruiting and hosting research participants
*Learning and becoming adept at video and observation techniques for
capturing user behaviour, such as the Observer video analysis software
*Surveying and reporting relevant literature, including both electronic and
library holdings, to support our knowledge of facts and techniques relevant
to our work
*Adminstration, such as sending out questionnaires and letters, printing and
collating copies of reports, keeping clear records of studies and participants
*Acting as a point of contact for external enquiries about Research,
including co-ordinating website content
*Taking responsibility for keeping up to date with developments in methods
and thinking about usability, consumer research, and areas relevant to the
company?s research activities
You will sometimes be required to work outside office hours, as the work may
involve phoning participants and occasionally running studies in the
evenings, or travelling to or from clients.
Skills
======
You?ll need to be willing and able to carry out the tasks already listed.
Necessary skills are:
a practical knowledge of MS Word and ability to present numerical data
diagrammatically, computer (PC and Mac) and Web competence including
excellent file management and Web search techniques, basic statistical
analysis, ability to research using paper and electronic sources, writing
clear, grammatical, and properly punctuated prose, and a confident approach
to others on the phone, in meetings, and when giving presentations. The Head
of Research with whom you will work is part-time, so you will require
initiative and the ability to manage and prioritise your own work.
