Matt - I did not say things are sorted! They are
hugely better in the last few weeks, surely you agree?
There is absolutely no doubt that this is the case and
our own (not politicians) figures show this.
If the other EDs you mention overfill to avoid
delaying ambulances then that is up to them: I think
it is unsafe and the geographics of our current
department mean that is not possible anyway, as I am
sure you realise.
Incidentally, I should point out that patients are
never left in vehicles but brought in - it is the
handover which is (now occasionally and for shorter
period than previously) delayed. The situation you
refer to, with ten ambulances waiting to unload, was
indeed a regular occurrance but I think you are
recalling events from prior to mid January.
My posting was intended to demonstrate that
significant change is possible: there are many people
on this list with similar problems to ours who are
searching for a way to improve things and as someone
who has previously posted despairing mails I thought
it useful to tell people that things have improved.
