The renowned Turkish-German writer Emine Sevgi Oezdamar will be this
year's DAAD writer-in-residence at Warwick in the first half of May.
Among the events planned for her visit is a one-day symposium on the work
of ESO and the Turkish-German cultural interchange, to take place on
Saturday 4 May. Speakers include Jim Jordan (Nottingham Trent), Elizabeth
Boa (Nottingham), Margaret Littler (Manchester) and Stephanie Bird (UCL).
Papers will consider the contribution of Turkish-German writing to the
negotiation of multi-cultural society in Germany, as well as examining ESO's
work and considering the context of other Turkish-German writing. We hope
there will also be a workshop session in the afternoon led by Frau Oezdamar.
If you are interested in attending this symposium, please contact Georgina
Paul on [log in to unmask] There may still be space for further papers
(we are awaiting confirmation from other speakers), so if you would like to
participate more actively, please also be in touch with Georgina Paul. Papers
will be of 30 mins duration, and may be in English or German.
You may also like to note that there will be a dual-language reading in the
Warwick Arts Centre, as part of the successful ongoing Writers at Warwick
programme, on Tuesday 7 May at 7.15pm. The reading will be introduced by
English novelist and journalist Maureen Freely. Tickets cost £4.50 full price,
£3.00 concessions and can be booked via the Warwick Arts Centre box
office on 024 7652 4524.
Again, please contact Georgina Paul if you would like further details.
