Images of Government in TV Entertainment 1998-2001
Description: This site provides access to a report published by the Partnership for Trust in Government, a joint project of the Council for Excellence in Government and the Ford Foundation. It examines the way in which American television entertainment shows presented images of public officials, civil servants, teachers, police officers and politicians from the 1998-2001. It is a follow up to an earlier study with the same title which covered the period 1950-1998 and is also indexed in SOSIG. The report includes coverage of characters, scripts and storylines. It is argues that images have become increasingly negative since 1955.

Global Review of Ethnopolitics
Description: The Global Review of Ethnopolitics is a peer reviewed electronic journal which supported by the specialist group on ethnic politics of the Political Science Association and the International Relations and Security Network. It includes articles relating to all aspects of ethnic conflict worldwide including: minority rights, ethnic group identity and the impact of globalisation on ethnicity. Public Administration Fifth Report: The Second Chamber: Continuing the Reform

Description: This site provides access to the full text of a House of Commons Public Administration Select committee report which was published in 2002 HC 494 session 2000-01. ISBN 0215001850. It contains the select committee's response to the government's white paper 'The House of Lord's reporting the Reform' (which is also available via SOSIG). It presents a critical review of proposals and progressing in refrming the UK House of Lords. Issues covered include: membership of the chamber, accountability; its legislative role; legitimacy and the relationship of the process with devolution.

Centre For the Advancement of Women in Politics
Description: The Centre For the Advancement of Women in Politics is based at Queens University, Belfast. It conducts research into the participation of women in political life and the inclusion of women's perspectives in government policy. Other topics of interest are representations of women in the media and the impact of political devolution on women. The primary focus is on women in the UK and Ireland. Its web site provides access to information about the purpose of the Centre and its current activities. It includes details of ongoing research and lists of publications. There is also a large 'Observatory section' which contains statistics on womens political participation. It includes lists of all current and former UK MPs, members of the devolved assemblies and European parliamentary members. Information on political represntation in other areas such as the civil service, business, universities and the legal system are in the process of being added. Also under compilation is a bibliography of further readings on women in British and Irish politics and a history of women's political participation.
