Call for Papers
“Hopes and Fears! The Future for Health”
International Policy Futures Conference
4 – 6 September 2002
Judge Institute of Management, University of Cambridge
This academic, multi-disciplinary conference will draw together individuals
and research groups working on policy futures for health, further
developing the field and adding to the rigorous academic base for health
policy development. It is intended to stimulate thinking and collaboration,
and possibly provoke new research tracks as additions to the strands that
have been previously identified. Papers are invited which draw on research
work which has something to say about the future.
In 2000, the Policy Futures for UK health report was published (available
at: http://www.nuffieldtrust.org.uk/health1/health.htm) With a second
report due to be published in 2005, a “Blue Skies” workshop was held at
the Nuffield Trust in October 2001 (proceedings available from
[log in to unmask] ) which resulted in the expansion and development of
already identified research themes. Accordingly, paper proposals are
invited which focus on a key theme in health policy futures. They should
address one of the following areas:
* The Shape of the Health System
* Comparative and International Benchmarking in healthcare
* Legal implications of health policy development
* Financing the Health System: Public Expectations and who pays for them?
* Political and ideological aspects of health policy
* Ethical issues and health policy
* Globalisation, human security, foreign policy and health policy
* Scientific and Technological discoveries and healthcare and health policy
* Innovations in IT & Informatics and health care and health policy
* The Workforce and the Professions in health
* Consumerism and public health, health care and health policy
