FIXED TERM LECTURER IN SOCIAL POLICY
SALARY £17,451-£23,141 (GRADE AO9.01- 07)
The Department of Social Policy and Social Work is seeking to appoint a
three year fixed term social policy lecturer from October 1 2002. The social
policy field of applicants is left open, although an interest in methods
(qualitative or quantitative) is welcome. Candidates must be prepared to
teach an optional subject for the MSc/ MPhil in Comparative Social Policy.
Salary is on the Departmental Lecturer scale as above, depending on the age,
qualifications and experience of the person appointed.
The department is an inter-disciplinary social science institution carrying
out teaching and research at the University of Oxford. Staff include social
policy specialists, sociologists, demographers and psychologists as well as
those with social work and probation backgrounds. The department's teaching
programme includes the graduate MSc and MPhil in Comparative Social Policy,
and doctoral research students in social policy and social work, as well as
the MSc in Applied Social Studies leading to a professional qualification in
social work. Some undergraduate teaching, for example social policy for PPE
and demography for Human Sciences, also takes place in the department.
An expanding research programme includes work on social deprivation, poverty
and disadvantage, the family, family law, parenting and childcare,
demography and population ageing, social security and welfare reform, social
work and probation, health and health care. Research groups include work on
poverty, social disadvantage and social inequality under the Social
Disadvantage Research Centre (SDRC); studies of families, children,
childcare and changing family legislation under the Centre for Research into
Parenting and Children and the Oxford Centre for Family Law and Policy
(OXFLAP); and the comparative study of demographic trends in industrial
populations under the Oxford Population project (OXPOP).
