medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
The Veronica (vera icona according some things I have read) can be found in
medieval art; Panofsky's article on Roger van der Weyden ["facies illa
Rogeri maximi pictoris, in Late Medieval Studies in Honor of Albert Mathias
Friend [Princeton, 1955], pp. 392-400), for one, addresses this. So,
briefly, does C. Olds, "Aspect and perspective in Renaissance thought," in
Nicholas of Cusa on Christ and the Church, ed. G. Christianson & T. Izbicki
(Leiden, 1996), pp. 251-64.
The veil of Veronica is supposed to be in the Vatican basilica, housed with
her statue under the Dome.
