Dear Colleagues,
I am pleased to announce details of a conference to be held at Loughborough
University from 3-4 October 2002:
* eLEGAL 2002 *
European Conference on Legal Aspects of ICT Application in Project-Based
Business
The second international event to raise awareness of 'eLEGAL' issues is
being organised for 3-4 October 2002 as part of the EC funded eLEGAL
European research project (IST-1999-20570). It is being held at
Loughborough University, in the heart of the UK, with easy access to
airports and London.
This conference seeks to review developments in the field of:
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) applications and their
inherent legal issues;
ICT-related law (national and international regulatory frameworks affecting
ICT applications); and
Current and future industry practices protecting authors, owners,
distributors of electronic project information - and the clients of these
project-based businesses.
The provision of legal support for ICTs is a key step to improving business
applications of these technologies, and this will be demonstrated through a
presentation of some of the findings of the eLEGAL project. The eLEGAL
project is seeking to define a framework for legal conditions and contracts
regarding the use of ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) in
project businesses to promote enhanced business practice in which the use
of ICT in inter-enterprise information exchange is contractually
stipulated. The project includes engineering, legal and academic partners
from the UK, Finland, Germany and Italy.
The organising committee for the conference invites submission of papers
from both theoretical and practical perspectives.
Topics may include, but are not limited to:
* current contractual practice related to ICT;
* interfaces between contractual practices/regulatory frameworks of
different EU countries;
* the rapidly changing application of ICTs to project-based businesses and
the legal ramifications;
* ICT support for virtual enterprises (VEs) and surrounding legal issues;
* legal support requirements for the application of ICTs to VEs;
* the development of XML for legal support/ICT integration;
* legal issues surrounding AEC objects, i.e. IFCs and STEP;
* eContracting;
* ICT applications in the construction industry and related legal issues;
and
* Related standardisation issues.
