Research Fellow: Web/Kiosk-Based Health Information on Falls Inclusive
salary of £21,620pa Grade 1B, spinal point 6 18-month post
Following a successful grant bid to the PPP Foundation, a full-time
Research Fellow is required to develop, pilot and evaluate a web- and
kiosk-based service which offers exciting, innovative information on
Falls Prevention to residents of Tower Hamlets, screens users for risk
of falling, and channels those identified into the healthcare system.
This fixed term post will be based in the department, situated on the
Mile End Hospital site adjacent to the Queen Mary College campus. The
post-holder will liaise closely with content providers to formulate a
knowledge base for lay users. This will be augmented with multimedia
and interactive material including video, animation, tests and games,
and a system to assess risk and channel those affected into the health
care system. After a needs assessment phase, the package will be
implemented, and evaluated in terms of usability, appeal and
effectiveness. Findings will be disseminated. The post-holder will
share coding and multimedia production, and support will also be
available in evaluation design.
Essential qualities of the post: skill in producing Web applications
with integrated multimedia; excellent knowledge of front end design
tools (eg. Photoshop, Flash, Dreamweaver) and Java solutions for
interactivity on the Web; proficiency in information management;
excellent communication skills; ability and interest in working with and
for older people; versatility and adaptability. Useful qualities:
previous research experience; understanding of educational evaluation;
interest in health promotion.
