Dear member,
A new web resource to support educators, trainers and students of HCI and
Interaction Design has recently been published. The site (www.id-book.com)
contains material that is aimed at anyone involved in HCI education and
training but is also a useful resource for practitioners. It is designed to
complement a new textbook on Interaction Design (just out) by Helen Sharp,
Yvonne Rogers and Jenny Preece.
The site includes links to topical and useful resources about Interaction
Design, HCI etc on the web, but it has much more besides. One of the
innovative aspects of the site is that it contains a number of 'hands-on'
interactivities which support the exploration of issues in the design and
evaluation of interactive products. For example, what constraints are faced
by the designers of mobile phones? How do you go about choosing between
different questionnaire designs? What kind of heuristics do you need to
evaluate the different kinds of interactive products now available?
There is also a section for new case studies, and a 'students' corner which
includes some 'quickvote' polls on seminal questions (where you can compare
your answer with what everyone else thinks), and will at a later date host a
showcase of works submitted to us by visitors to the site.
You are encouraged to try out the interactivities, to take part in our
'quickvote' polls and to submit any relevant design work you have completed.
We hope you find the site helpful. Please send us feedback.
