We in Scarborough are responsible for the Bridlington MIU which sees 17000 new
patients per year.
When I started, we had great difficulty in persuading the ambulance service
to bypass the Hospital with trauma cases but won through with some very basic
protocols.
I now have the battle of doing the same for acute medical patients who are currently
admitted to Bridlington with no Lab, anaesthesia, critical care, surgery or
24 hour X-ray since CHI says it is dangerous to continue! However we have no
space at Scarborough.
I believe there are 50 such hospitals in the UK
Scarborough has the basic surgical and medical services including ITU but no
local Neuro or cardithoracic (90mins driving on a good day 3 hours in the summer)
