Rob,
I have absolutely no argument with the moral ambiguity
slant you are taking - it's just I live in the real
world where, treating a colleague to whom you may be
referring a patient tommorrow, makes things easier to
get the wheels moving amd better therefore for my
patients and family.
Also, friendliness between Health care proffessionals
means you talk more and info is passed on quicker and
easier and sometimes in more detail.
It's about the only thing that makes the NHS worth
working for anymore, when you can have a friendly,
informal discussion with a clinical situation about
which you're not the expert but the guy whose wife you
treated is.
What I'm saying is: I find it better for my patients
in the long run.
It may not be moral, but if I can get a better deal
for my patients health I'll use any and all means I
can.
People do remember kindness, however it is shown.
Iain
