Can I add a note of caution to having sixth formers in resus. As part of the
first year of our medical course we spent a short amount of time in A+E, some
groups witnessed resus work and despite 'mentoring and support' (mostly by the
GP tutors who were with them) several folk felt pretty traumatised by the whole
thing. I remember as a sixth former how excited and keen I was to do and see
things, but sometimes that enthusiasm has to be restrained by older and wiser
heads - I would urge clinicians to be very careful as to what you expose WE
students to (but still encourage them to come to A+E and get flavour of medicine).
