Brendan, I'm sorry were boring you. But language is important. Especially,
it appears to those who make policy or else why have people who are Disabled
given so many different labels. Take me for example. when I was born I was
labelled r______ a waste of space. Then handicapped, then special needs,
then physical challenged. Then the social model and at last people who are
Disabled were given the right to decide what we are called and how we are
defined. Because that what we are really talking about isn't it. Self
definition.
The right to self define and discuss it is important to all movements, not
only us in the disability rights movement, feminism and the Black Civil
rights movement to name two. The demand for self definition is the beginning
and the heart of many campaigns and when any marginalised group cry for
choices and rights.
Any way Brendan, its not all we discuss. This year alone has seen us discuss
direct payments, chronic illness and many other issues. Brendan stop moaning
and be positive. If you want to discuss another topic. Tell us what is. I'm
sure you'll find many people willing to discuss it with you. I value the
views of the people on this mailing list i've learnt a lot. Stick with us,
its worth it. I assure you. Victoria
