Subject: employment enquiry
To Whom It May Concern,
My name is Sonya Sherman. I am a qualified librarian and archivist,
currently working at the National Archives of Australia. For professional
and personal development, I am seeking employment in the United Kingdom for
(at least) the period May - December 2002. I hope to broaden my professional
outlook by learning about information management, libraries or archives in
the UK, and the sorts of issues being faced by practitioners. My main goal
is experience and the exchange of ideas and knowledge.
Attached is a brief CV, as well as a more comprehensive explanation of my
qualifications and experience. In summary, my qualifications include a
university degree in library and information studies and a graduate
certificate in archives and records management. I have experience in public
libraries (circulation, reference, acquisitions), government archives
(reference, DIRKS appraisal, AGLS metadata) and administration (including
records management, accounts, payroll and clerical). I hold professional
membership of both the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA)
and the Australian Society of Archivists (ASA). I am also security cleared
to "Secret" level by the Australian Public Service.
I believe that a prospective employer would be required to apply to the
Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment for a work permit on my
behalf - since I am not a British or EU citizen.
Thank you for taking the time to consider my application. I look forward to
the opportunity of an interview or providing any further information you may
require. Until Wednesday 16 January 2002, I can be contacted on either
[log in to unmask] or +61-2-6212 3659 (w). After that time I will be most
easily contactable via email at [log in to unmask] .
Yours sincerely
Sonya Sherman
