2002 SPA Conference: Localities, Regeneration and Welfare
Call for Papers: Deadline 29th March 2002
The 2002 Social Policy Association Conference will take place at the
University of Teesside, Middlesbrough, from 16th - 18th July.
This conference will provide a timely opportunity to examine trends in
delivering 'joined-up' social policies embedded in regenerative area-based
initiatives such as zones, communities and neighbourhoods and delivered by
partnerships.
Contributions (papers and poster presentations) to the following sub-themes
are welcomed
* Health and wellbeing
* Education and learning
* Social inequalities (to include issues of 'Race', class and gender)
* Employment and Financial Security
* The lifecourse
* Communities and social renewal (to include housing and social care)
* Governance (to include partnership and multi-agency working)
Plenary speakers will include Professor Derek Fraser and Professor Anne
Power, and there will be a special symposium marking the 50th Anniversary of
the 'Poverty 10 Afters Beveridge' Report with Professor Peter Townsend.
There will also be a practitioner forum led by experts in area-based
initiatives, and Mo Mowlam will be speaking at the Annual Conference Dinner.
Special interest group meetings include those for women and social policy,
health policy, comparative social policy, postgraduates and the ESRC.
Abstracts of about 150 words (either on paper and supported by a disk in
Word 6 or compatible format, or by e-mail in rich text format) should be
