'Their shops are dens, the buyer is their prey':
Retailers and consumers in historical perspective, 1500-2000
CHORD (the Committee for the History of Retailing and Distribution) welcomes
proposals focusing on any aspect of the relationship between consumers and
distributors/retailers. Possible themes are: shop fronts, interiors and
advertising, credit and hire-purchase, the place of shopkeepers and middlemen in
society, consumer attitudes, and the cultural and economic roles of shopping.
However, proposals on other topics are also very welcome.
The deadline for the submission of proposals (which should include an abstract
of c. 200 words) is 28 February 2002. Proposals should be sent (preferably in
