Dear Colleagues,
There was a debate on the Nuffield Report and on language teaching in the
UK on Wednesday in the House of Lords: it can be read at
http://www.parliament.the-stationery-office.co.uk/pa/ld199697/ldhansrd/pdvn
/lds02/text/20116-07.htm#20116-07_head1
It makes pretty depressing reading, unless one wants to find encouragement
in the mere fact of the Lords' being interested. One good aspect, however,
is that German is referred to often, and several speakers make arguments
for not concentrating solely on French.
Best wishes,
Sheila Watts
